Athens

In september, I did a travel a week long in Athens. I first visited the Acropolis and painted on the spot both the Parthenon and the Caryatid porch of the Erechtheion with watercolor in a small A4 sketch book that I've done myself, as described in my previous blog post Travel by bike.

Next, I went to the archaeological museum and discovered Mycenaean fresco of Tiryns. I was so impressed that I reproduce some of them. The previous woman portrait is my watercolor reproduction of the original, done between 1400 and 1200 BC, which is now in this museum. A photography of it is available here.

I also reproduced some fresco from Akrotiri. The following spring fresco dates from 1600-1500 BC.

I was very impressed by the style and freedom of these artists of the ancient Greece. Similaryly, the young boxers, from the same period:

Watercolor, about 21x30cm. About 2 hours each of them.

Exhibition at l'ESAD

Exhibition at l'ESAD, 3, rue Federico Garcia Lorca, Grenoble, from Wednesday 17 June and until Wednesday 24 June 2022. This is a collective exhibition of all the students of the school of fine arts of Grenoble (l'ESAD). Access map here.

I present three paintings and six drawings for this exhibition.

More portraits: Gustave Courbet and Yan Pei-Ming

Today, at l'ESAD, I worked on a sepia portrait. I chooses a portrait of Gustave Courbet: the links shows an original black-and-white photography due to Etienne Carjat, 1867. Yan Pei-Ming, a contemporary painter living in France, interpreted this photography in 2019: observe here his painting, which is monochrome in blue. My interpretation is also monochrome, but sepia:

Acrylic, monochrome sepia, 50x65cm.

I love life drawing

In february 2021, Kenzo Fry, from the Love-Life-Drawing web site, animated the Figuary 2020 event, together with excellent tutorials and advises. In march 2021, the drawing classes at l'EDSAD brutally stopped, due to the covid have come to a sudden halt due to the pandemic and strict lockdown. So, I finally subscribed to online lectures with Kenzo Fry at Love-Life-Drawing. The lectures focuses on life drawing sketches, wih concepts such as landmarks, boxes, simplification and gesture.

We also trained to short time drawings, here 3mn and 2mn:

The rerences for these drawings are photographs of models from the Croquis Cafe data base. Charcoal, about 65x50cm.
